Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great month of October! Its November 1st- a new month has arrived, a new chance to start fresh! After my last blog pots (click to read), some of you have reached out to me expressing how you have the desire to start your own business, but are scared to start and have no idea how to even begin. I've been asked how I learned to promote myself the way I do-- but I was not always like this. For me the key was really a matter of building up confidence and paying attention to what inspires me....So I decided to write about the first thing I had to do before I started either of my businesses- which was to overcome my fear.
The number one thing holding many of you back from actually "going for it" and changing your life- whether it be a new relationship, a new business, or a lifestyle change are the fears associated with starting this new endeavor, whatever that endeavor is, fear is holding you back. SO- that being said I wanted to share something that inspired me to be more confident and taught me to listen to my inspiration. Most importantly what I am sharing with you is what helped me let go of my fears.
I had to have faith in myself before taking any steps forward, but I just did not know how to let go of my insecurities or my fear of failure. So one day, I was browsing on Amazon (of course - don't roll your eyes lol)- and I started looking for motivational books. I came across Steve Harvey's "Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success"- and man did this book change my life. I was not a Steve Harvey fan (so do not worry if this is the case with you) nor was I familiar with his books, but I read reviews and decided to order the audiobook. I listened to it every morning, with my children in the car on the way to drop them off at school. I actually finished it within a week, and repeated it two more times! Each time I hear the audio book I embraced it in new ways than the last- it was great!
Steve Harvey spoke about this "gift" we all are born with. Wow, what powerful words! I had a gift? Well I know I acknowledged my own strengths but I never really even thought of it as a gift. Now I see it as my "gift/talent" being something I could offer the universe. I started thinking about how I love helping people, and educating others when it came to their finances or taxes, and how I love being complimented on my work. I especially love sharing my fashion finds and style. It was right before my eyes what my gift was and I had to take off with it.
Once I finished this audio book I was determined to let go of my insecurities and embrace my inspiration- and share it with the world. I told myself, I need to stop making excuses for why I can't, tell myself I can, and go for it! I started changing internally first, came closer to God, started visioning my future, and re-evaluated priorities within myself. This book is such a great motivation, and the nice thing is if you don't have time to read, you can always listen to it while you drive. Thank you Steve Harvey for the inspiration!I highly recommend reading this book or listening to the audiobook- you will not regret it!
For some of us it is easier or harder to find inspiration or direction in what we really want to do. Everything is a process. I did not become so outgoing on social media over night- it was a slow process. I let go of my fear and grasped my inspiration. Now that I am on a steady path - I would not want my life any other way. I feel like what Steve Harvey said was right- once you are using your gift and are happy with what you do, everything else falls in place and feels just right.
I hope this post can lead some of you to check this book out. If you don't check it out that is fine also, just know that I also once was in your shoes- scared to take off, and lacking the confidence to promote myself- after training myself and with lots of faith in God, I feel like nothing can block me from sharing my "gifts" with you all.
What are your gifts? Have you even thought of that before? What are you good at? What do you LOVE to do that others LOVE to see you do? I would love to here from you (you can chat below with me)! Maybe you are a good cook but work in retail, maybe a you work in a bank but feel you are a great hair stylist- or maybe you work at a restaurant but are an amazing athlete- Where you are now may be temporary, and I hope this post made you think outside of the box for a little.
